Mission Commitment

Government of 12

Jesus clearly expressed the heart, soul, and mission of God for this world just before He left this planet to be with His Father. Matthew 28:19-20 says, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." God loves the world and believes that His people will also fulfill His passion by their personal participation. God trusts in us; there is no back up plan. To achieve this passion of God, Jesus worked very closely with "twelve men." He mentored each one so they would be able to take His place and fulfill the tasks of the Father, which is to reach people with His love, mercy, and forgiveness. Following Jesus' pattern, the apostle Paul also trained twelve men who later became the great leaders of the New Testament church. We call this mentoring technique the "Government of 12".

The number twelve is seen throughout the Bible and is the number of God's government. Jesus established His kingdom and government on the earth by using the same principle that God used to establish Israel in the Old Testament. Just as Israel had twelve tribes, Jesus had twelve disciples. Using this pattern, Jesus intended to show us a model of how to disciple not only our local communities, but also the nations of the world. When things are done God's way, powerful things happen in the lives of people.

Churches worldwide are implementing this dynamic principle because it's God's way and it works. Its simple personal nature is easy to duplicate. It is not a "church growth program", but a development of a fathering, nurturing lifestyle that assists every believer in becoming a multiplying leader who can disciple others.
